Obituary of Geraldine Sheppard Rice
Funeral services for Geraldine Sheppard Rice, 75, of Roanoke, will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Roanoke with Bro. Mark McGee and Bro. Scott Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home on Thursday October 1st from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Mrs. Rice will lie in state at the church from 12 noon until the service hour.
Mrs. Rice passed away on September 28, 2020, at her son’s residence.
Mrs. Rice is survived by her daughter, Sharron Rice Milford (husband, Calvin) of LaFayette; a son, Steve Rice (wife, Jeannie) of Birmingham; four grandchildren, Emily Milford, Melissa Milford, Caroline Rice, and Ben Rice; two sisters, Carolyn Brackett of Rome, GA, and Robyn Hadaway of Palmetto, GA; two brothers, Frank Sheppard and Joey Sheppard, both of Rome, GA.
Pallbearers will be Scott Childress, Jim McKinney, Doug Fallin, Adam Melton, John Tinney, Tommy Yarbrough, and Ben Rice.
A Roanoke native, Mrs. Rice was born on November 17, 1944, the daughter of Jerry F. Sheppard and Velma Richardson. She was Christian by faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke. Mrs. Rice had worked as a secretary for many years at Roanoke City Schools. Mrs. Rice enjoyed her time as a member of the Roanoke Garden Club and she had a special love of baking cakes for her friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 56 years, Larry Wayne Rice.
