Obituary of Sallie Elizabeth McDonald Ussery

Graveside services for Sallie Elizabeth McDonald Ussery, 81, of Birmingham, formerly of Roanoke, will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery with Bro. Wendell Ford officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  The family requests anyone attending the service to please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Ms. Ussery passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021, in Birmingham, AL.

Survivors include: two daughters, Elizabeth “Libby” Ussery Grubic (David D.) and Lydia Ussery Cowart (Ernie Sr.), both of Birmingham; one son, Gordon “Bud” Ussery (Mary Douglas) of Birmingham; eight grandchildren; and one brother, William White McDonald of Birmingham.

Pallbearers will be Justin Nagle, Tyler Nagle, Gordon Ussery, Hugh Cowart, Austin Trowell, and Mac McDonald.

A Roanoke native, Ms. Ussery was born on December 30, 1939, the daughter of Sterling Paine McDonald, Jr., and Nellie Elizabeth White McDonald.  She was a member of the Kirkwood By The River Chapel and was a homemaker.   Ms. Ussery was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Sterling Paine McDonald, III, and Allan Jefferson McDonald.
