Obituary of Rev. Otis J. Hodnett
Funeral services for Rev. Otis J. Hodnett, age 94, of Roanoke will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 12:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church with Bro. Chuck Daniel and Bro. Scott Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Garden with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, February 5, 2021. Rev. Hodnett will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.
Rev. Hodnett passed away Monday, February 1, 2021, at Traylor’s Nursing Home.
Survivors include his daughters, Jo Daniel (Gary) of Douglasville, GA, Vickie Whaley (Mike) of Roanoke, and Janis Howard of Shelby, AL; son, Ron Hodnett (Cathie) of Hickory, NC; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hodnett, Benji Whaley, Stevie Head, Robbie Hodge, Slay Whaley, Wes Head, Jake Hodnett, and Tyler Lanier. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Daniel, Mike Whaley, Garfield Clark, Bob McGinnis, and Cline Fetner.
A Roanoke resident, Rev. Hodnett was born in Lineville, AL on May 14, 1926, the son of Luther Patella and Roxie Gabriel Hodnett. Rev. Hodnett was a 1958 graduate of Tennessee Temple Baptist College. He served as pastor for nine churches across Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. He also served in the United States Army where he was the recipient of the EAME Campaign Medal with 2 bronze service stars, a World War II Victory Medal, and a Bronze Star. Rev. Hodnett was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vivian J. Bradford Hodnett; brothers, Quinton Hodnett, Orville Hodnett, and Awbrey Hodnett, and a great-great-granddaughter, Taylor Daniel.
