A Clay County native, Mrs. Taylor was born on in the Motley community on July 18, 1937, the daughter of James Luther and Ollie Samantha Jones Kellum. Her childhood was spent growing up in a rural setting, helping on the family farm, and attending school and church. Jean married the love of her life, Calvin Taylor, in April of 1956 and they became long-time residents of Wadley, Alabama. They were faithfully and happily together until separated by Calvin’s death in 1994. As a young woman, Jean accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior and was a faithful member of Hope memorial Church. She loved to sing and would often lead the congregation in singing praises to her Lord. On Tuesday nights, you could always find her enjoying the music and laughter with her WSM Pickin’ House family.
After many years of living alone and with her health beginning to fail, Jean moved to live in the home of her niece Janice and her husband, Gary Yates in Terrell, TX, in 2018. This was a big transition for Jean, but she loved her “Texas family” and they loved her back. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Calvin Taylor; brothers, Huey, Linzy, Harlan, Garland, Herman, and Clatis Kellum; and sisters, Lessie Digby and Glenda Jones.
