Obituary of Opal Rice Waldrep

Graveside services for Opal Rice Waldrep, age 84, of Wadley will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Cemetery at Broughton with Rev. Billy Allen officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM on Sunday before services begin.

Mrs. Waldrep passed away Friday, April 9, 2021, at her nephew’s residence.

Survivors include: one brother, George Rice, Jr., (Harriet); one sister-in-law, Virginia Rice; caregivers and nephew, Tommy Waldrep and his wife Stacy; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kimberly Waldrep, Thomas Waldrep, Shane Burke, Lance Garrett, Jonathan Garrett, and Michael Goss. Jayce Garrett, Mrs. Opal’s Little Buddy, will serve as honorary pallbearer.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Waldrep was born on July 21, 1936, the daughter of George Dewey and Evie Lorene Morris Rice.  She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Broughton and worked at Palm Beach Company for many years and served on the Board of Registrars for Randolph County.  Mrs. Waldrep was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Thomas J. “June” Waldrep; two brothers, Cecil Rice and Albert Rice; and two sisters, Fannie Burke and Mary Clyde Ussery.
