Obituary of Billy Ray Taft
Funeral services for Billy Ray Taft, age 76, of Roanoke will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at 3:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Pat Heuer officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, August 20, 2021 and from 1:00 – 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 21, 2021.
Mr. Taft passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at his residence.
Survivors include his daughters, Vicky D. Collier (David) of Lanett, AL and Nicki Taylor of Wadley, AL; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Brenda Barnett (Howard) of Roanoke; and companion, Ann Clark.
Pallbearers will be the members of the Roanoke Fire Department.
A Randolph County native, Mr. Taft was born on November 13, 1944, the son of Ray and Dorothy Folds Taft. He worked in the maintenance department at Candlewick. Mr. Taft was a member of High Pine Baptist Church and a member of the Roanoke Fire Department for 50 years where he served as assistant chief since 2016. He also was a former member of the Randolph County sheriff’s reserve. Mr. Taft was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Angela Taft; sister, Judy House; and brother, Waymon Taft.
