OBITUARY
Funeral services for Mr. William Earl Vaughn, Sr., of Roanoke, age 82, will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009, at 2:00 pm from the Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Richie officiating and Bill Vaughn and Billy Smith delivering the eulogy. Mr. Vaughn will lie in state at the church one hour before the service. Burial to follow in Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 11, 2009.
Mr. Vaughn died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Harper Vaughn of Roanoke; two daughters, Sylvia Matthews of Tallassee, FL, Dianne Akins of Irondale; one step-daughter, Lavenia Swann of Wedowee; three sons, William Earl Vaughn, Jr. of Athens, John Kenneth Vaughn of Roanoke, Larry Hardin of Davison, MI; two step-sons, Billy Smith of Montgomery, Kevin Smith of Roanoke; one brother, Thomas Carl Vaughn of Wadley; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Roanoke Masonic Lodge # 132.
Mr. Vaughn was born May 8, 1927, the son of James S. and Elizabeth Parrish Vaughn. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, had been an over-hauler for Amoco Fabrics and Fibers and served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Vaughn. Flowers will be accepted or donations to Countryside Hospice.
