Obituary of Chester Wayne Fetner

Funeral services for Chester Wayne “Shine” Fetner will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Charles Lipford officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 PM on Saturday before services begin.

 Chester Wayne ”Shine” Fetner, a United States Army Combat Wounded Veteran, passed from this life on the 6th day of September, 2021, at home in Fargo, North Dakota where he had lived for the last 11 years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Inge Hofmann Fetner, son, Erik Glenn Fetner and wife Bethany Ann Fetner, four grandsons, Cole Christensen and wife Jenna of Portland, Oregon, Alexander Fetner, Mathew Fetner, and Samuel Fetner, “Adopted” son Troy Lee Holter and wife Donna of California, two sisters, Bonnie F. Lipford and husband Charles Lipford of Eustis, Florida and Sandra Hall and husband Harold Hall of Roanoke, Alabama and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Father, Lavert Glenn Fetner and Mother, Myrtle Carrie Fetner, sister Sarah Myrtle Messer and husband, Bob Messer and brother Floyd Haynes Fetner and wife, Francis Fetner.

 Wayne served two tours, 1968 and 1971, in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart during both tours. He was awarded the Silver Star for Heroic Action in 1971.

 Following medical retirement from the Army he was the Administrative Chief of Prosthetics for the Veterans’ Administration in Indianapolis, Indiana and Little Rock, Arkansas, retiring in 1980. Moving to Benton, Arkansas in 1978 he became an entrepreneur. Moving to Dallas, Texas in 2002 he retired again. Erik and Bethany moved with grandsons to Fargo, North Dakota in 2009. Wayne and Inge followed in 2010.

 Wayne, always the server of all, was a lover of Life, Inge, Erik, Bethany, grandsons, and all who knew him.

 Wayne will be missed by all.
