Funeral services for Billy R. Harvel, age 83, of Roanoke will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 3:30 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Leslie Motley, Tamela Adams, and Steve Smoot sharing special memories.  Graveside services will follow at Mt. Zion Christian Church Cemetery with Bro. Roger Florence officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-3:30 PM on Thursday, October 21 before services begin.

Mr. Harvel passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Harvel of Roanoke; two daughters, Melissa Hill (Chance) of Roanoke and Nicole Yerta (Josh) of Opelika; one son, Billy Harvel (Jana) of Pulaski, TN; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Harvel’s grandchildren, Will Pennington, Logan Harvel, Nathan Harvel, Hayden Harvel, Braxton Yerta, Peyton Yerta, Cason Hill, Reece Hill, and Aiden Yerta.  Honorary pallbearers will be special friends and family, Harold Maynard, Barry Nelson, B. G. Harvel, Steve Smoot, and Jamison Hester.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Harvel was born on May 5, 1938, the son of  W. C. “Ceph” and Myrtis Dodson Harvel.  He was a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church, served in the Alabama National Guard, and was the owner and operator of Chris Gay Manufacturing.  Mr. Harvel was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marylene Nelson and Reba Rampy; and one brother, Bobby Gay “Bob” Harvel, Sr.

Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the Mt. Zion Christian Church Cemetery Fund c/o Keith Richardson.
