Obituary of Rev. Franklin D. Foster, Sr.
Funeral services for Rev. Franklin D. Foster, Sr., age 88, of Rock Mills will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Rock Mills Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Frank Foster, Jr., Bro. Rusty Guizar, and Dr. Byron Shortinghouse officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, November 5, 2021. Rev. Foster will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.
Rev. Foster passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at The Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Newnan, Georgia.
Survivors include: two daughters, Vickie Foster Vollenweider (David) of Roanoke and Pam Hay (Dale) of Wadley; two sons, Franklin D. Foster, Jr., (Sherry) and Dwayne Foster (Cheryl), both of Roanoke; honorary daughter, Ronda Whitaker; ten grandchildren, Amanda Green (Charlie), Trae Foster (Laura), Ashley Johnson (Brian), Andrew Vollenweider (Kasey), Katie Reed (AJ), Keishia Foster (Micah), Cody Foster (Haley), Stephen Hay, Nichole Bennett (Brandon), and Whitney Hay (Austin); 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nancy Joyce Hicks of Rock Mills.
Pallbearers will be Trae Foster, Stephen Hay, Andrew Vollenweider, Cody Foster, John Glass, and Gary Gillespie. Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Guizar, Harold Whitaker, Clark Windsor, and Shad Brown.
A Randolph County native, Rev. Foster was born on June 1, 1933, the son of Wilner Eugene and Mary Frances Crowder Foster. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam conflict with 20 years of service and had a bachelor’s degree in education from Auburn and taught electronics at the Randolph County Vocational School for 18 years. Rev. Foster was a member of the Rock Mills Church of the Nazarene where he was pastor for 16 years and he also served as pastor at the Roanoke Church of the Nazarene for five years. He was lovingly called “Big Daddy” by his family and loved fishing and catching reds. Rev. Foster was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Joann Foster; and one brother, Lamar Foster.
