OBITUARY
Funeral services for Mason Thanuel "Sam" Freeman, age 79, of Roanoke, will be held Monday, February 6, 2012, at 3:00 pm from Big Springs Baptist Church with Revs. Cecil Halsey and Scott Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, February 5th. Mr. Freeman will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 2:00 pm on Monday.
Mr. Freeman died Friday, February 3, 2012, at Northway Healthcare & Rehabilitation in Birmingham.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Mitchum (Ed) of Woodland; one son, Todd Freeman (Wanda) of Roanoke; one sister, Marjorie Middlebrooks (Charles) of Bowdon, Ga.; one brother, Donnie Freeman (Kathy) of Ranburne; two grandchildren, Claire Mitchum and Brittany Freeman.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Cofield, Keenan Moon, Luke Moon, Chandler Moon, Stoney Halsey and Ed Halsey.
A lifelong Roanoke resident, Mr. Freeman was born October 2, 1932, at Heard County, Georgia, son of Carl and Ellie Mae Walker Freeman. He was a Korean War veteran, a member of Big Springs Baptist Church and had retired from LaMar Manufacturing Company. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth McClung Freeman; two brothers, E. J. Freeman and Dr. Thomas Freeman.
