WILLIAM FRAZIER (Bill) DAVIS
The Lord welcomed one of his most faithful servants to Heaven when William Frazier (Bill) Davis of Roanoke, AL departed this life on Saturday, December 19, 2009 after a brief but hard fought battle with cancer. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 22 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home in Roanoke with Rev. Gerald Romine officiating. Visitation will be Monday December 21 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Quattlebaum. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons, Jimmy McKinney, and John White. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens in Roanoke.
A devoted husband and father, Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Willis Davis; two sons, William Michael Davis of Nashville, Tennessee and Alton Bruce Davis of Roanoke; daughter-in-law Sharon Johnson Davis of Roanoke; three grandsons, Brad and Josh Davis of Roanoke, and Reid Davis of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and a great-grandson, Brayln Davis of Woodland.
Mr. Davis was born August 10, 1928 in Ashville, AL to William Ira and Evis Frazier Davis. He graduated from Jacksonville State University with a B.S. in Accounting. He was employed by Alabama Power Company for 30 years, holding various administrative positions in Anniston, Birmingham and Roanoke, finally retiring in 1988 as a District Supervisor in Roanoke. Mr. and Mrs. Davis and their family moved to Roanoke, AL in 1973 from Oxford, AL.
A lifelong Baptist, Mr. Davis loved the Lord and worked tirelessly for Him with the youth groups at First Baptist Church of Roanoke and Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Oxford where he also served as Sunday School Superintendent.
After retiring, he and Mary began their true work traveling around the country in their RV on over 60 mission trips, building churches as part of the Southern Baptist Convention program, Campers on a Mission. They traveled to all 50 states in their service and lived a full life.
