Obituary of William Byron "Sonny" Pike
Funeral services for William Byron “Sonny” Pike, age 77, of Roanoke will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Scott Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00-11:00 AM on Friday before services begin.
Mr. Pike passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Bill Nichols Veterans’ Home in Alexander City, Alabama.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue Killingsworth Pike of Roanoke; two sons, David Pike of Leeds and Jacob Pike of Rome, GA; sister-in-law, Jeanette Pike of Dallas, GA; and nephews, Alan Pike (Deborah) of Dallas, GA, and Ricky Pike of Readyville, TN.
A Roanoke native, Mr. Pike was born on February 6, 1946, the son of Clyde Huey and Mary Still Pike. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam conflict. During his 20-year military career, Mr. Pike was stationed all over the world, from Texas for training to Florida to Thailand, to Germany and England in Europe, back to Texas for more schooling, and then Vietnam, Germany, and Florida before retiring as a Master Sergeant at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery. In the spring of 1984, he had temporary duty in Cairo, Egypt, where he worked with the Army to move equipment and then temporary duty in Spain where he helped build an erector set to offload aircraft. After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Pike went to work for the United States Postal Service, from which he also retired. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 53 in Roanoke, Alabama. Mr. Pike was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George R. Pike, Sr.
