Obituary of Earolyn H. Whitlow

Please share a memory of Earolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Earolyn H. Whitlow, born on September 9, 1941, in Roanoke, Alabama, peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Heard and Bernice Henderson Heard.

After completing her education at Randolph County Training School, she entered into matrimony with the late Curtis Whitlow. Their union was blessed with four children. In the 1960s, Earolyn and Curtis made the decision to relocate to Stamford, Connecticut. Throughout her career, she held positions at esteemed establishments such as Clairol and Avon. Her dedication also extended to roles at Nathaniel Witherell Healthcare Facility and Parsonage Cottage Senior Residence, where she diligently served until her retirement in 2002. Subsequently, in August of that year, they returned to their hometown of Roanoke.

Earolyn was a devout member of the Wilson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Stamford, Connecticut. It was there that she embraced her faith, committing herself to the service of the Lord by actively participating on the Usher Board until her relocation to Roanoke. Following her return, she became an integral part of the New Life Worship Center, where she maintained her membership for numerous years. Possessing a true Christian spirit, she generously devoted her time and care not only to her family but also to countless others whom she embraced as friends.

She is survived by her son, Frederick (Felicia) Whitlow of Palm Harbor, FL; three daughters, Candace (Ellis) Birks of Hamden, CT, Crystal McGrew of West Haven, CT, and Nerisa (George) Hyman of Clayton, NC; two sisters, Rosalyn (Calvin) Belle of St. Louis, MS, and Marylin H. Phillips of Euclid, OH; brother, Robyn P. Heard of Columbus, OH; brother-in-law, Gene Whitlow of Columbus, GA; four grandchildren, Alisha Greenland, Cortney Whitlow, Genesis (Brandon) Ryant, and Christopher (Vallencia) McGrew; four great-grandchildren, Julien Greenland, Eden Fender, Jace Greenland, and Kori Ryant; special friends, Ann Lee Hill, Faye Trammell, Ella Huffman, and the Hill family; along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Earolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Whitlow, as well as a brother, James L. Heard, and a sister, Carolyn Thompson. Her presence will be dearly missed, and her legacy will be cherished by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
