Funeral services for Carol Holderfield Shelnutt, age 81, of Five Points will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church in Chambers County with Rev. Kevin Buttrum officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Stroud with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.  Mrs. Shelnutt will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday.

The family will gather at the home of John Holderfield at 1101 County Road 434, Five Points, AL 36855.

Mrs. Shelnutt passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL.

Survivors include her husband, Doyle Shelnutt of Five Points; one daughter, Terri Murr of Roanoke; one son, John Holderfield (Jenny) of Five Points; three grandchildren, Kenneth Wood (Mikaela) of Palmetto, GA, Josh Wood (Brandy) and Jeremy Wood (Lexi), both of Roanoke; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Wood, Josh Wood, Jeremy Wood, Jody Pike, Tim Perry, and Steve Green.

A Stroud, Alabama native, Mrs. Shelnutt was born on October 2, 1942, the daughter of Homer Howell and Frances Elizabeth Lee Cumbee.  She worked as a paraprofessional at Roanoke City Schools before retiring.  Mrs. Shelnutt was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Britt Holderfield; one daughter, Robin Holderfield; and one sister, Sula Cumbee.
