Obituary of S. A. Kidd, III
A celebration of life service for S. A. Kidd, III, age 82, of Roanoke will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Roanoke Church of Christ with Charles May, Jessica Kidd, and Bruce Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-2:00 PM on Sunday before services begin.
Mr. Kidd passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Georgia.
Survivors include his wife of over 43 years, Pam Norred-Kidd of Roanoke; nieces and nephews, Tim Kidd (Sara), Jessica Kidd, Ben Kidd, Stephanie King (Stevie), and Amy Markt; great-nieces and nephews, Blakelee Ray, Evan Mitchell, Sam Kidd, Greta Kidd, Hollingsworth Waltman, and Calla Waltman; one brother, Jack Kidd (special friend, Kathleen McBride) of Coker, AL; and two sisters-in-law, Kaye Kidd of Coker, AL, and Cheryl Parmer of Roanoke.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles May, Bruce Davis, Braelyn Davis, Shelby Taylor Phillips, Mike Strain, Jamie Heard, Joel Fetner, Stanley Cofield, and the men of Roanoke Church of Christ.
A Mississippi native, Mr. Kidd was born on July 3, 1941, the son of S. A. Kidd, Jr., and Mary Josephine Graham Kidd. He was a member of the Roanoke Church of Christ. Mr. Kidd taught at Herschel V. Jenkins High School in Savannah, Georgia, Tuscaloosa High School, and Handley High School before teaching at the New Hope Christian School, where he retired. He and his wife travelled considerably early in their marriage. Mr. Kidd enjoyed kayaking, fishing, hiking, and sailing, even owning his own sailboat. He also enjoyed horseback riding and working his farm, its animals (chickens and cows), and gardening. Mr. Kidd was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bob Kidd; and sister-in-law, Sue Kidd.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations made in Mr. Kidd’s memory be made to the Roanoke Church of Christ Mission Fund at 121 Stewart Street, Roanoke, AL 36274; the Lebanon Christian Church Cemetery Fund at P.O.
