Obituary of Jerrell Hodges
Funeral services for Jerrell Hodges, age 82, of Dickert will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Tommy Mitchum officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-5:00 PM on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
Mr. Hodges passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Royann Hodges of Dickert; one daughter, DeLane Hodges Vansandt (Mark) of Sylacauga; two sons, Russ Hodges of Abanda and Rick Hodges of Dickert; his greatest treasures, three grandchildren, Harli Hodges, Will Hodges, and Trent Hodges; two brothers, Waymon Hodges (Linda) of Dickert and Don Hodges (Lynn) of Sylacauga; a sister-in-law, Tammie Hodges of Abanda; his German short-haired pointer, Wade; and two lifelong friends, Jimmy Dunn and Tommy Mitchum.
Pallbearers will be Will Hodges, Trent Hodges, Cagan Hamby, Bennett Wilkinson, Hudson Hodges, Tripp Hodges, Gage Ogilvie, and Zak Anthony. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Dunn, Tommy Mitchum, John Landers, Bill Landers, Tim May, Bill Anthony, Steve Anthony, Bill Hodges, Troy Hodges, all members of the Randolph County Water Board, Robbie Hodges, Richie Hodges, Alex Anthony, Aden Anthony, Bobby Hodges, Daniel Hodges, Scott Hodges, and Lew Anthony.
A Dickert native, Mr. Hodges was born on November 29, 1940, the son of James Fredrick and Mary Jo Turnham Hodges. He was a member of Radney’s Chapel Methodist Church, a 1959 graduate of Handley High School, and a 1965 graduate of Jacksonville State University. Mr. Hodges worked as a banker for Commercial Bank for 30 years where he served as Vice President and later at Colonial Bank for 10 years where he was Branch Manager. He served on the Roanoke City Council for ten years and also served as Mayor Pro Tem for two years. Mr. Hodges was also a little league coach. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Douglas Hodges; brother, Fred Hodges; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Robertson Hodges; and bonus daughter, LeRae W. Rainer.
