Obituary of S. T. Janney

Please share a memory of S. T. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

S.T. Janney passed away on April 28, 2024, in LaGrange, Georgia, at 90 years of age.

Born on October 2, 1933, in Roanoke, Alabama, S.T.’s life was one marked by intentional service and ministry.  After spending time in the United States Navy and supporting his family through a career in manufacturing, he resigned in 1969 to pursue full-time Christian ministry. He became the pastor of several churches in the Alabama/Georgia area, including Stovall Baptist Church in Stovall, Sunnyside Baptist Church and Oakside Baptist Church in LaGrange, and finally Faith Baptist Church in Roanoke.  After his retirement, he spent his time traveling, speaking, and singing, mostly in the Alabama/Georgia area.  He preached his last sermon at Todd Baptist Church in Valley, Alabama, in February of this year.

Next to his love and devotion to God was his love for his family as a treasured son, brother, husband, father, Papa, and Ole Papa. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Era Janney; his sisters, Doris Rutland, Lorene Aubrey, and Agnes Morris; and his beloved son, Russell Janney.  He is survived by his faithful wife of 65 years, Frances Runell Janney; his brother, Thurman Janney; his daughter, Jenny (Gary) Thompson; his daughter, Joy Janney; his grandchildren, Heather (Kevin) Aalto, Amber (Josh) Hasty, Adam (Harmony) Janney, and Kelly (Kaylor) Williams; and his great-grandchildren, Brantlee Aalto, Garrett Aalto, Addie Williams, Maddux Hasty, Aneliese Janney, Weston Williams, and Lilliebelle Hasty.

He continued to share the gospel of Jesus to everyone he came in contact with, even through the last week of his life.  Truly, he is an example to all believers to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 3:00 PM (AL time) at Faith Baptist Church in Roanoke with Bro. Scott Whaley and Bro. Dennis Farr officiating, with the eulogy given by Amber Hasty.  Burial will follow at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-3:00 PM (AL time) on Thursday before services begin.

Memorials may be floral.
