Lucrete Smith, born on July 16, 1933, in Heard County, GA, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who touched the lives of many with her kindness and warmth.

Lucrete was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Hershel Junior Smith, her loving parents, James Nolen Arrington and Carrie Bell Heard Arrington, and her dear siblings SI Arrington, Billy Joe Arrington, Gilbert Arrington, Harvey Arrington, Emmett Arrington, H.C. “Bob” Arrington, Obelee Hood, and Gertrude Paskal.

She is survived by her cherished children, Barry Wayne Smith and Randy Lee Smith, who were the pride and joy of her life. Lucrete was also a devoted grandmother to Sherry (Marc) Hendrix, Tommy (Judy) Smith, Anthony Wayne Smith, grandchildren Randy Lee Smith II, and Brandon Smith. Lucrete was blessed with many great-grandchildren: Payton (Samantha) King, Ryan (Emily) Fretwell, Zoe Cantrell, Kayla Smith, Kerri (Bo) Scarborough, Kevin Kolhepp, Brody Lee Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Teagan Netherland, Ashley Hussie, Lainey Formby, Makayla Barnes, and Nicole Johnson. Her legacy continues with her great-great-grandchildren: Sophia Wright, Olivia Scarborough, and Liam Smith. Additionally, Lucrete is remembered fondly by her loving friends and caregivers whom she affectionately called her adopted daughters: Donna Holden, Karen Higgins, Betty Wilkerson, Stacy Bonnett, and Robin Fincher. She also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces and nephews, who brought much joy to her life.

Lucrete worked hard for many years at Candlewick Yarns and Amoco Fabrics, where she was commended for her exceptional attendance, interest, and attitude. She demonstrated her devotion and loyalty while maintaining a strong work ethic. Lucrete was a dedicated member of Roanoke Nazarene Church, where she found comfort and strength in her faith. Her faith was the cornerstone of her values, and informed everything that she did, and she loved to share her love for Jesus with anyone who would listen.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, July 2nd, from 5pm to 8pm at Quattlebaum Funeral Home in Roanoke, Alabama. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024, at 4:00 pm at Center Chapel Church, now known as Heritage Baptist Church. She will lay in state at the church an hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday.

Lucrete’s gentle spirit, boundless love, and enduring strength will forever remain in our hearts.

She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Flowers can be sent to Quattlebaum Funeral Home, food can be received at Roanoke Nazarene Church on Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm. Rest in peace, dear Lucrete.
