Graveside services for Robert Floyd French, age 95, of Roanoke, will be held Monday, October 8, 2012, at 1:00 pm from Bethel East Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Howard Johnson officiating and Harold Harmon delivering the eulogy. Burial will be preceded by full military honors with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 am until 12 noon on Monday.
Mr. French died Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Ava Hills Assisted Living in Wedowee.
Survivors include one sister, Lois Woodham of Wedowee; one brother, Henry Alton French of Wedowee; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Larry Crozier, Tracy Eason, Tim Sikes, Hobart McManus, Forest French and Gerson French.
A Wedowee native, Mr. French was born August 30, 1917, son of John Robert and Martha Leola Sikes French. He was a distinguished WWII Army veteran, the recipient of four Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He was a former officer and 65-year member of the VFW, a member of The American Legion and The Disabled American Veterans. Mr. French was a member of the First Baptist Church, Roanoke and a retired auto parts salesman. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha G. French; four sisters, Cora Daniel, Alice McManus, Nona Mae Parrish and Bermice Stewart; three brothers, Joe A. French, Jimmy French and Larkin French.
