Obituary of Dorothy A Ussery

Funeral services for Dorothy A. Ussery, age 80, of Roanoke will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Ricky Emery and Bro. Jacob Ussery officiating.  Burial will follow at Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.  Ms. Ussery will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday.

Ms. Ussery passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Traylor’s Nursing Center.

Survivors include: four nieces, Carmen McCord (Eric) of Dothan, AL, Rebecca Whaley of Helena, AL, Joanie Purdy (Brad) of Roanoke, and Wendy Ussery of North Georgia; five nephews, Jason Ussery (Becky) of Roanoke, Jamie Ussery (Patty) of Wedowee, Lincoln Whaley (Lynda) of Valley, Leland Whaley (Jessica) of Dunnavant Valley, AL, and Robbie (Tabitha) Ussery of Roanoke; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; one sister, Nancy Whaley of Roanoke; and one brother, Leon Ussery (Vanda) of Roanoke.

Pallbearers will be Jason Ussery, Jamie Ussery, Lincoln Whaley, Leland Whaley, Eric McCord, and Robbie Ussery.

A Bacon Level native, Ms. Ussery was born on July 23, 1944, the daughter of Zachery and Ethel Hale Ussery.  She was Christian by faith and worked at Stephanie Fashions until her retirement.  Ms. Ussery was also a caretaker for her parents and other family members.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Dennis Ussery and Sanford Ussery.

Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to Quattlebaum Funeral Home to go toward final expenses.
