Marlin Ray Simpson Obituary

Marlin Ray Simpson, born on April 7, 1942, in LaGrange, GA, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on December 30, 2024.

Ray was a hard worker who loved his family and loved life.  Some of his greatest joys were fishing, washing cars, gospel music, and teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren the best ways to get in trouble. If you spent any amount of time with him, you were guaranteed to laugh.

He spent his career working for Southwire and Palm Beach but retired from Fiberglass Unlimited.  In his retirement, he enjoyed telling tall tales, fishing, and tinkering on any machine he could.  He never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need.  He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Roanoke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Viola Simpson; his wife, Jimmie Mae Simpson; and several siblings.

He will be dearly missed by his companion, Joan Scroggins of Lake Martin; his children, Theresa Allen (Jimmy) of Roanoke, Tammy Cross (Stephen) of Roanoke, Tina Kennedy (Terry) of Roanoke, and Tim Simpson (Beth) of Anniston; his grandchildren, Ross Head (Brooke) of Alexander City, Will Head (Holley) of Opelika, Erin Burroughs (Trey) of Ashland, Paige Pugh (Christian) of Anniston, Tara McDaniel of Roanoke, Monica Collins (Nick) of Anniston, Carmen Simpson of Delta, Taylor Dukus (Ty) of Roanoke, Bailey Cross of Anniston, Abby Sears (Jacob) of Roanoke, and Gabby Cross of Anniston; and a legacy of 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ross Head, Will Head, Trey Burroughs, Jacob Sears, Eli Head, Charlie Burroughs, Pat Gooden.

The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Hemberg, Dr. Edith Graves, and the staff of Spencer Cancer Center for the excellent and compassionate medical care our daddy and pawpaw received in his final years.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 12 noon at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Scott Whaley officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 AM on Thursday before services begin.
