OBITUARY
Funeral services for Virgil Parker Barber, Jr., age 95, of Roanoke, formerly of LaFayette, will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 11:00 am from Sweet Home United Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Williams and Rev. Baxter Chism officiating. Burial will follow at Sweet Home United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday.
Mr. Barber died Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Traylor Nursing Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Richardson (husband, Ed) of Roanoke and JoAnn Barber of Grandview, MO; one son, Parker Barber (wife, Leuticia) of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark Mason, Robert Barber, Harry Barber, Cody Clark, Greg Fulghum, and Mike Potts. Honorary pallbearer will be Ethan Barber.
Mr. Barber was born July 20, 1917, in Chambers County son of Virgil Parker Barber, Sr., and Eula Pearl Elder Barber. He was a member of Sweet Home United Methodist Church and had worked as a survey engineer with Tallapoosa Electric. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Mae Brown Barber; his parents; three brothers, Fred Barber, Elder Barber, and Jack Barber; one sister, Mary Barber.
