OBITUARY
Funeral services for Rev. William Leroy Newman, age 78, of Roanoke, will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 31, 2013, from Handley Ave Church of God with Rev. Gary Baugh and Rev. F. W. Sheppard officiating. Rev. Newman will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial to follow in Levens Baptist Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Richard Fetner, Kenny Brooks, Perry Jo Sudduth, Larry Stewart, Derick Pate, Kevin Johnson, Steve Smith and Kevin Trask.
Rev. Newman died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.
Rev. Newman is survived by his wife, Mary Jeanette Nobley Newman of Roanoke; two daughters, Lisa Renee Wood and husband Danny of Roanoke, Angela Denise Johnson and husband James of Roanoke; two sons, William Martin "Mark" Newman and wife Martha of Anniston, Johnathan Glen Newman and wife Michelle of Roanoke; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Gerald Kenneth Newman of Oxford.
Rev. Newman was born January 6, 1935, the son of William Ross and Dellie Mae Keeble Newman. He was a member of Handley Ave Church of God, had been a minister, and had worked for Handley Mills and Franklin Aluminum. Rev. Newman served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Vickie Darlene Newman; two sisters, Verbie C. Brooks and Beatrice Maddox. Flowers will be accepted or donations to the Handley Ave Church of God Building Fund.
