Obituary of Thelma Nichols Sledge

Funeral services for Thelma Nichols Sledge, age 71, of Roanoke, will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 12, 2013 from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jamie Taylor and Rev. Tim Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 11th.l Mrs. Sledge died Tuesday, April 9th at her home. Survivors include her husband, Calvin R. Sledge of Roanoke; one daughter, Robbie Sledge Whaley of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Rich Whaley and Nick Whaley, both of Roanoke; a sister, Myria Armitage of Roanoke; two special nieces, Cathy Sledge Crumpton of Honea Path, SC and Jonnette Sledge Payne of Wedowee. Pallbearers will be Mike Mitchell, Wes Seymour, William Treadwell, Harlin Nix, Ben Beaird and Blu Sledge. A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mrs. Sledge was born October 14, 1941, daughter of Samuel Elmer and Gayle Mitchell Nichols. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and had been the Director of Roanoke Housing Authority. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Nichols Dwayne Sledge (1963).
