Obituary of Walter Nathaniel Whitlow

Funeral services for Walter Nathaniel Whitlow, age 71, of Roanoke, will be held Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 1:00 pm from St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Jeffrey Rosser and Rev. William Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Sky View Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 26th. Mr. Whitlow will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 12 noon on Thursday. Mr. Whitlow died Friday, June 21, 2013, at Wedowee Hospital. Survivors include four daughters, Marilyn Monroe (Clifford) of Killeen, TX, Teresa Pettway of Chicago, IL, Wenda Whitlow of Roanoke and Tina Thomas (William) of Newnan, GA; one son, Wendell Winston Whitlow (Kathy) of Franklin, GA; one sister, Annie Stanford of Abbeville; two brothers, Gene Whitlow of Columbus, GA and Harold Whitlow of Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Earlin Whitlow, Sharon Phillips and Mary Baker, all of Roanoke, Linda Paige, Dottie Morgan, Ester Morgan and Emma Morgan; brothers-in-law, George Morgan, Johnny Morgan and Bobby Morgan, all of Roanoke; care-giver, Dennis Baker; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be members of the Roanoke Fire Department. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Whitlow was born September 21, 1941, son of Nathaniel and Mattie Lee Adams Whitlow. He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and the owner/operator of Whitlow Grave & Vault Company, established in 1977. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katie Morgan Whitlow; three brothers, Gordon Whitlow, Charlie Whitlow and Curtis Whitlow.
