Obituary of Fred Shaddix Bailey

Funeral services for Fred Shaddix Bailey, age 83, of Wadley, will be held Monday, July 1, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. from Beulah Christian Church with Rev. Zenus Windsor and Rev. Wayne Cowhick officiating. Burial will follow at Wadley Cemetery with Rev. Phil Gore conducting committal services. The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 30th. Mr. Bailey will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Mr. Bailey died Saturday, June 29th at his home. Survivors include his wife, Betty Baynes Bailey of Wadley; daughter, Diane Estes of Wadley, son, Rick Bailey (Angie) of Wadley; daughters, Kathy Kirby (Dan) of Oceanside, NY and Rosemary Wilder (Ralph) of Roanoke; sons, Freddy Edmondson (Brenda) of Carrollton, GA and Steve Edmondson (Jenny) of Roanoke; eleven grandchildren, Adam Bailey, Jim Bailey, Ashley Estes, Hannah Cofield, Ben Estes, Tracey Winckelmann, Jennifer Fletcher, Robbie Wilder, Brandon Edmondson, Wayne Edmondson and April Pike; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Billy Harper (LeAnn) of Opelika. Pallbearers will be Adam Bailey, Jim Bailey, Ben Estes, Robbie Wilder, Wayne Edmondson, Brandon Edmondson, Logan Cofield and Sandrew Briskey. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Kirk, Bob Bugg, David Wilkins, Dale Knight, Charles McKay, David Bishop, Rusty Arrington, Buster Robertson, Richie Fetner, John Bailey, Carl Davis and Bennie Yates. A lifelong Wadley resident, Mr. Bailey was born June 10, 1930 in the Truett community, Chambers County, the son of John C. and Hollon Shaddix Bailey. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War; a graduate of Wadley High School (Class of '48) and Auburn University (1952). Mr. Bailey was co-owner of Bailey Brothers Lumber Company at Abanda, Alabama for 34 years. He was a member at Beulah Christian Church and served as Deacon. He was also a member of the Wadley Kiwanis Club and Randolph County Cattlemen's Association. Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norma Harper Bailey; three brothers, Jack Bailey, Bob Bailey and Bill Bailey. Memorials may be floral or the family suggests contributions to Beulah Christian Church, P.O. Box 8, Wadley, AL 36276.
