James Merrell Upton, age 73, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, July 7th.
Survivors include his companion, Margie Avery of Roanoke; one daughter, Marleia Hand (David) of Jacksonville, FL; one son, Roger Davis (Sonya) of Manchester, GA; two step-daughters, Kathy Hagler (Doyle) of Pine Mountain, GA and Ann T. Obeidat of Marietta, GA; two sisters, Peggy Champion (Dan) of Manchester, GA and Gay Grubbs (Joe) of Griffin, GA; one brother, Ted Upton (Roberta) of Somerville, NJ; eight grandchildren.
A long-time Roanoke resident, Mr. Upton was born June 4, 1940, in Tallapoosa County, the son of Mims and Mae Jennings Upton. He was an Army veteran and a dairy cattle farmer.
