Betty M. Slay, of Chambers County, Ala., was born on September 5, 1934, and passed away July 20, 2013. A former resident of Trussville and Birmingham, she worked at Southern Union State Community College library and attended New Hope Christian Church. Survivors include three sons, David (Marti) Slay of Trussville, Michael Slay of Chambers County, and Brooks (Shirley) Slay of Huntsville; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Jimmie Sutton and Sarah (Frank) Hurley; and two brothers, Jerry (Betty) Norton and Clifford Norton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert C. and Lois Jewel (Johnson) Norton; husband, Robert Walter Slay; a son, Robert Walter Slay, Jr.; and her brother, Bill (Daphyne) Norton. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2013, Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel, in Roanoke, Ala., with the Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2013.
