Funeral services for Henry Charles Wilkes, age 56, of Roanoke, will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013, at 2:00 pm from Deliverance Temple with Rev. Jerome Fannin, Rev. Tom Staples, Rev. Freddie Bell, and Rev. Michael Goss officiating. Burial will follow at Skyview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 31st. Mr. Wilkes will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 1:00 pm. Mr. Wilkes died Friday, July 26, 2013, at his home. Survivors include his wife, Lelay Wilkes of Roanoke; one daughter, Tonia Heard of Roanoke; three sons, Antwon Heard of Smith Station, Lakeia Wilkes and Charles Wilkes both of LaGrange; his father, Charlie Louis Wilkes; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six sisters, Lola Gray of Birmingham; Johnnie Mae Henderson, Kelley Ann Phillips, Sarah Houston, Dorothy Tucker all of Roanoke, and Syretta Revels of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Curtis Buggs of Gadsden. Pallbearers will be Carl Henderson, Tommy Weaver, Willie Reid, Robert Daniel, Eric Tucker, and Quincy Vines. Mr. Wilkes was born February 26, 1957, son of Charlie Louis and Shirley Ann Harris Wilkes. He was a member of Deliverance Temple and had been employed as a machine operator with Milliken and Company. He was preceded in death by his mother; one sister, Norma Jean Kelley; one brother, Charlie Wilkes, Jr; one grandson, Jordan Heard.
