Mr. Self was a very good man. I went to Rock Mills Jr High in the 7th and 8th grade, 1976-1978. I got whipped by Mr Self a couple of times, he used a leather strap back then. I deserved those whipping and never held it against him. During my 8th grade year, Mr Self made the mistake of sending me and 3 other guys in our class out to find a Christmas tree for the school one morning. Mike Brewer convinced him it was a good idea. We ended up walking through woods and pastures most of the day. We stayed gone on purpose but we brought back a nice tree. He was a little mad, but got over it pretty quick. RIP Mr Self.
