Obituary of Loette McManus
Please share a memory of Loette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
McManus, Edna Loette Fincher, 89, passed away peacefully in her granddaughter's home November 1, 2013, in Longmont, Colorado. Mrs. McManus was born on May 12, 1924, in Randolph County, AL, daughter of the late Edna Lucille (Lucy) Heard and Elias Lloyd Fincher (also of Randolph County). She attended school in Wedowee. Loette was married at Central Baptist Church in Phenix City to the late Jesse Ray (J.R.) McManus from August 15, 1941 until his death in 2010. She was the mother of two children, Judith Diane McManus (Dale) Evans (who died in 1997) and Jesse Ray McManus, Jr. (Jay). She was a resident of LaGrange from 1959 until moving to Longmont, Colorado in September of 2013 to be with family. Loette was employed at Calumet Mills and Warehouse Grocery. She was devoted to her family and always willing to care for others, whether a neighbor's child in need or a stray litter of kittens who had taken up in her back barn. She enjoyed reading and working in her beloved flower beds. She was infamous for having a warm, welcoming hug as well as a clean bed just in case someone decided to stop by. She will be dearly missed by family, friends, and multitudes of grateful and well-fed backyard birds and squirrels.
Mrs. McManus was preceded in death by two infant brothers, her brother Howell Fincher, and her sisters, Janie Dudley and Eulette Evans. Survivors include her sister: Jo (Bob) Hester of Opelika; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Rosemary McManus of County Down, Northern Ireland; grandchildren: Carlyn Evans Stinson of Prattville; Shanda Evans (Chris) Roberson of Longmont, Colorado; and Ginny (Jeremy) Luther (honorary) of Boiling Springs, North Carolina. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren: Emma, Sadie and Sam Stinson; Rowen, Kellan and Aidah Roberson; and Bryson and Kendall Luther (honorary).
A celebration of Loette's life will be held at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel in Roanoke, Alabama on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. (CST) and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m (CST). Reverend Larry Armstrong will be officiating, with David Fountain providing music. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be designated for Four Paws Animal Hospital, 101 Parker Place Road, LaGrange, GA 30240 to help with spaying and neutering stray cats in the LaGrange area.
