Obituary of Thomas Gaines Simpson

Funeral services for Thomas Gaines Simpson, age 86, of Roanoke will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 11:00 AM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roger Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, November 15, 2013. Mr. Simpson died Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City. Survivors include: two sons, Terry (wife, Teresa) Simpson of Roanoke and Thomas (wife, Anita) Simpson of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mattie Ruth Brown of Geneva, AL. A Dekalb County native, Mr. Simpson was born on December 18, 1926, the son of John Wiley and Ola Mae Kellum Simpson. He was a WWII, Korea, and Vietnam Air Force veteran and was an elder at Lebanon Christian Church. Mr. Simpson had been employed as a warper at Amocco Fabrics. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rebecca Perry Simpson; and ten brothers and sisters. The family is accepting floral memorials and also requests donations be made to Lebanon Christian Church.
