Obituary of Sara Harris Hendley

Funeral services for Sara Harris Hendley, age 85, of Roanoke will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2013, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roger Woodard and Rev. Lendon Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Napoleon Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Mrs. Hendley passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Wedowee Hospital. Survivors include: three daughters, Evelyn Young, Kutine (husband, Kirby) Smith, and Deborah (husband, Micky) Young, all of Roanoke; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A Randolph County native, Mrs. Hendley was born on November 17, 1928, the daughter of Marion Bradford Harris, Sr., and Evie Wilson Harris. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and was a spinner at Handley Mills, Dunson Mills, and Candlewick Yarns. She was also a caregiver. Mrs. Hendley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Hendley; two sons, Billy Hendley and James Hendley; one daughter, Linda Hendley; one grandson, Tommy Hendley; four sisters and seven brothers.
