Funeral services for Floy Genette Tatum Aikens, age 75, of Abanda, will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013, at 11:00 AM from Abanda Methodist Church with Bro. Floyd Aikens, Bro. Mark McGhee, Bro. Johnny Bishop, and Bro. Mark Rasberry officiating. Burial will follow in Tatum Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, December 26, 2013. Mrs. Aikens will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to funeral services beginning at 10:00 am on Friday.
Mrs. Aikens passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at her residence.
Survivors include one daughter, Allison Aikens of Abanda; one son, Alan Aikens of Birmingham; one sister, Lavonia Osborn of Abanda.
Pallbearers will be Ed Estes, Ray Mulkey, Talmadge Blake, John Looser, Ken Ballard, and Jonathan Cole.
A Chambers County native, Mrs. Aikens was born on January 16, 1938, the daughter of Frank and Clara Allums Tatum. She was a member of Abanda Methodist Church and had been employed as a teacher with Lanett City, Chambers County, and Southern Union schools. She also coached girls basketball and softball at Southern Union. Mrs. Aikens was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Cleve Aikens.
