Funeral services for Wilma Jean Whaley, age 84, of Roanoke, will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 17, 2014, at Rock Mills Methodist Church with Rev. Stanley Yarbrough and Rev. Tim Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Mrs. Whaley will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services on Friday beginning at 1:00 pm. Mrs. Whaley passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Bethany House in Auburn. Survivors include three daughters, Susan Salatto (husband, Pat), Lora Jones (husband, Burrel), and Pam Daniel (husband, Phillip) all of Roanoke; one son, Pat Whaley (wife, Jeanette) of Roanoke; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Schwind, Matt Daniel, Trey Salatto, Gus Jones, Wes Jones, Michael Bassett, Donnie Truitt, Alan Tucker, Rigney Cofield, Hope Whaley, and Jim Powell. A Randolph County native, Mrs. Whaley was born on July 19, 1929, the daughter of Truitt and Myrtle Pike Knight. She was a lifelong member of Rock Mills Methodist Church, Union oil and gas distributor and a housewife. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wallace Ozeal "Tiny" Whaley; one grandson, John Elliott; three sisters, Wynona Truitt, Mildred Bassett, and Doris Knight; two brothers, Wendell Knight and Bobby Knight. The family will accept flowers or donations to the American Kidney Foundation (11921 Rockville Pike, Ste 300, Rockville, MD 20852).
