Obituary of Mary Jeanette Newman

Funeral services for Mary Jeanette Newman, age 76 of Roanoke, will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 1:00 pm from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. F.W. Sheppard officiating. Burial will follow in Levens Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 pm on Friday, February 14th. Mrs. Newman passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Wedowee Hospital. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Wood (husband, Danny) of Roanoke and Angela Denise Johnson (husband, James) of Roanoke; two sons, William "Mark" Newman (wife, Martha) of Anniston and Johnathan Glen Newman (wife, Michelle) of Roanoke; one sister, Sandra Guin of Scottsboro; one brother, Bill Nobbley of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Claudine Nobley; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be Steve Smith, Bengie Johnson, Rodney Smith, John Holderfield, Derek Pate and Kevin Norred. A long time Roanoke resident, Mrs. Newman was born June 1, 1937, at Wedowee, the daughter of William Chink and Ollie Mae Fowler Nobley. She was a homemaker and a member of Handley Avenue Church of God. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy Newman; daughter, Vicki Darlene Newman; grandson, Samuel Lee Johnson; brother, Robert Nobley; sister, Kathleen Baldwin.
