Funeral services for J.W. Whaley, age 80, of Woodland will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014, at 2:00 PM from Midway United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Whaley and Bro. Rayford Edmondson officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Mr. Whaley will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Friday, March 7.
Mr. Whaley passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at Wedowee Hospital.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sue Whaley of Woodland; two daughters, Debbie Jayne Whaley McCarley of Roanoke and Heather Danielle Whaley (husband, Bill Tobin); three sons, Jimmie Warren Whaley, Jr., (wife, Dottie) of Charlotte, NC, Timmie Lee Whaley of Pell City, and Ronnie Daryl Whaley (wife, Julie) of Virginia; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two nephews and one niece; two brothers, Bayron Whaley of Roanoke and Donald Whaley of Woodland; and extended family, Randy and Ann Gilliland of Roanoke.
A Randolph County native, Mr. Whaley was born on March 12, 1933, the son of Cleveland and Minnie Richardson Whaley. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church and was a retired United States Air Force Staff Sergeant with 23 years of service, including both the Vietnam and Korean Wars. Mr. Whaley was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene Whaley and Clarence Whaley; and one niece, Rhonda Whaley.
