Funeral services for James Albert "Jimmy" Kirby, age 80, of Roanoke, will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 11:00 AM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Quick and Rev. Gary Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at White's Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 on Friday, March 21, 2014.
Mr. Kirby passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Kirby of Roanoke; three daughters, Kris (husband, Bud) Batson of Warrior, Kelli (husband, Kent) Wilson of Roanoke, and Kala (husband, Jonathan) Caldwell of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Amber Johnson, Corey Wilson, Leah Wilson, and Tyler Belcher; and one sister, Julia Moree of Alexandria.
Pallbearers will be Ben Waldrep, Bill Ward, Frank Hodges, Tim Kirby, Johnny Williams, and Lew Moore.
A Roanoke native, Mr. Kirby was born on February 27, 1934, the son of Waites and Mattie Lou Taylor Kirby. He was a member of White's Chapel Methodist Church and worked at Franklin Aluminum. Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anita Williams and Eulette Ward; and three brothers, Weyburn Kirby, George Kirby, and Doyle Kirby.
