Obituary of Billie Ruth Hobson Brown

Funeral services for Billie Ruth Hobson Brown, age 87, of Roanoke, will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 1:00 pm from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Gerald Romine and Minister Lynn Bullard officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 am on Wednesday. Mrs. Brown died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Traylor Nursing Center in Roanoke. Survivors include three daughters, Laura Brown of New Orleans, LA, Margaret Swindle of Daphne and Susan Byers of Las Cruzes, NM; five grandchildren, Savannah Swindle, Katie Parker, Zachary Brien, Nathan Bradley and Joseph Bradley; and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Stan Brien, Zach Brien, Matt McCarthy, Nathan Bradley, Gerald Clark and Fred Denney. A long-time Roanoke resident, Mrs. Brown was born December 13, 1926, at Ripley, Mississippi, the daughter of William Clay and Ida Street Hobson. She was a member of Roanoke First Baptist Church and had worked as an accountant with the Palm Beach Company and Alabama Power Company. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Lamar Brown; two brothers and two sisters.
