Funeral services for Era Louise Overton, age 93, of Roanoke will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Donald Spradlin and Rev. Lynn Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Welcome Home Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, April 5, 2014.
Mrs. Overton passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at her residence.
Survivors include: two sons, Billy Joe Overton of New Mexico and Elton Overton of Roanoke; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sybilene Smith of Orlando, FL.
A Roanoke native, Mrs. Overton was born on January 23, 1921, the daughter of Homer and Mary Lou Richardson Smith. She was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church and worked in assembly at Franklin Aluminum. Mrs. Overton was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William (Bill) M. Overton; two sons, Clifford Overton and Jimmy Overton; two sisters, Ruby Brown Freeman and Ethel Yarbrough; and one brother, Jewel Smith.
