Funeral services for William Gerald Knight, age 80, of Roanoke, will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at 11:00 am at Roanoke First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Barrow officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Mr. Knight died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Sue Knight; one son, Gerry Knight of Montgomery; one daughter, Suellen Barton (husband, John) of Huntsville; one sister, Carolyn Cavendar of Augusta, GA; sister-in-law, Faye Wales (husband, Kenneth) of Hopkinsville, KY; sister-in-law, Betty Moore of Roanoke; brother-in-law, Tom Moore of Roanoke; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one niece and several nephews. Pallbearers will be Levi Barton, Will Barton, Terrell Barton, Perry Baker, Larry Moore and Doug Moore. Members of the FUMC Men's Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. A Roanoke native, Mr. Knight was born December 10, 1933, the son of Gerson (Bo)Knight and Roxie Cole Knight. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran, serving eighteen months in Tokyo, Japan. He was a retired office manager at West Point Foundry and Machine Shop in West Point, GA. As a member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church, he was an active member of the Men's Sunday School Class and had served as church finance chairman for ten years. The family suggests memorial contributions to Roanoke First United Methodist Church (P. O. Box 40, Roanoke, AL 36274) or to Life Choice Hospice (4455 Hwy 431, Roanoke, AL 36274).
