Obituary of Alice J Wood

Graveside services for Alice Jean Wood, age 87, of Wedowee, formerly of LaGrange, GA, will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014, at 3:00 PM (CST) from Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange, GA, with Rev. Wayne Webb officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 PM (CST) on Friday, August 1. Mrs. Wood passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Traylors Nursing Home in Roanoke, Alabama. Survivors include: one daughter, Charlotte (husband, Bob) Cowan of Pittsburg, PA; one son, Walter Wood of Wedowee; one grandchild, Chad Cowan; and one nephew, John Velona of Alexandria, LA. A Troup County native, Mrs. Wood was born on July 16, 1927, the daughter of Fordyce Barker and Mary Alice Patterson Saltsman. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Roopville, GA, and was a file clerk for the U.S. Social Security Administration. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Alice Jean Wood; and two sisters, Barlice Saltsman Adamson and Virginia Saltsman Velona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alice Jean Wood Memorial Fund, 319 College Street, Roanoke, AL 36274.
