Obituary of Thomas Lamar McCray

Funeral services for Thomas Lamar McCray, age 40, of Roanoke, will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014, at 2:00 pm from Christian Memorial Sword of the Spirit Ministries with Pastor Tom Staples officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Baptist Church, Bacon Level, with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 11th. Mr. McCray died Saturday, September 6, 2014, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Chambers County. Survivors include his fiancé, Pamela Staples of Roanoke; one daughter, Tamiya McCray of Roanoke; one son, Dourvoisier McCray of Roanoke; his father, Thomas Junior McCray of Roanoke; his mother, Kathy Turman McCray of Roanoke; grandfather, Thomas Jefferson McCray(Nettie) of Atlanta; two sisters, Tanya Morgan (Remon) of Fayetteville, GA and Betevia Reid of LaGrange, GA; three brothers, Trevenio McCray (Temeka) of Cincinnati, OH, Demond Watkins of Franklin, GA and Thomas Watkins(Chablis) of Grantville, GA; three aunts, Margie Owensby (Albert), Nita Lane and Trudy Turman; five uncles, Billy Joe McCray (Angela), Terry Lee Zachary(Jackie), Jeffery McCray, Willie Joe McCray(Phyllis), and Larry Turman; cousins whom he shared a brother/sister bond, Luther McCray, Towanna Zachery, and Kenya Owensby-Kyles (Aris); special cousins, Felecia Johnson, Keith McCray, Willie Joe McCray, Jr., and Calmease McCray(Shanda); 11 nephews, eight nieces, and one great-niece. A Randolph County native, Mr. McCray was born September 5, 1974, the son of Thomas Junior and Kathy Turman McCray. He started his Christian journey at an early age with Friendship Baptist Church, Bacon Level and later joined New Beginning Outreach Ministry and was employed with Milliken Live Oak Plant. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Ida Mae Turman and Ora D. Slay; sister, Brittney McCray; an uncle, Melvin McCray; and an aunt, Lisa Turman.
