Funeral services for Joseph P. "Joe" Marable, age 77, of Roanoke will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014, at 1:00 PM from Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM-8:00 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2014. Mr. Marable will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Friday. Mr. Marable passed away Monday, September 15, 2014, at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Georgia. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Sullivan Marable of Roanoke; three daughters, Rose Johnson(husband, Melvin) of Atlanta, GA, Penelope Beasley of Jonesboro, GA, and Rhonda Marable McVey(husband, William) of Roanoke; one foster daughter, Keshia Jones of S.C.; three sons, Barry Marable, Keith Marable(wife, Theresa), Chris Marable(wife, Carol), all of Roanoke; one adopted son, Jimmy Foster of Roanoke; two foster sons, O'Neal Lewis and Antoine Lewis, both of Montgomery; 14 grandchildren; one adopted grandson, Justin Lockhart; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Bobbie Sanders of Louisville, KY; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mr. Marable's grandsons, Emmanuel Hill, Gabriel Marable, Adrian Marable, Justin Lockhart, Barrington Marable, Jr., and Christopher J. Marable. A Roanoke native, Mr. Marable was born on February 17, 1937, the son of John Wyatt and Elizabeth Marable. He was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church and worked for the National Lead Company out of Atlanta, Amoco Fabrics & Fibers, and was a self-employed farmer. Mr. Marable was preceded in death by his parents; one foster son, Kenneth Jones; three brothers, Rufus Marable, Charles Marable, and Johnny Marable; and five sisters, Mildred Bohanna, Lucile Lee, Bessie Wells, Alice Allen, and Lois Holliday.
