Funeral services for Samuel Mark Wylie Jr., age 90, of Wadley, will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at 11:00 AM from Roanoke First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Barrow and Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. Mr. Wylie will lie in state for one hour prior to services beginning. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, December 26, 2014. Mr. Wylie passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at his residence. Survivors include: one daughter, Laura Marsh (husband, Peter) of Kaufman, TX; four grandchildren: Samuel Marsh, Catharine Marsh, Caroline Marsh, John Byron Wylie (wife, Hilary) and great-grandson, Zachary Wylie; one daughter-in-law, Jan Wylie Plagens of Senoia, GA; and one brother Robert Wylie (wife, Faye) of Wedowee. Pallbearers will be Lane Sims, Eric Key, Blake Lowry, Rick Bailey, David Harmon, Daryl Harmon, Ken Fordham, and Richard Koehler. Honorary pallbearers will be the Mens Bible Sunday School Class. A Randolph County native, Mr. Wylie was born on August 22, 1924, the son of Samuel Mark Sr. and Laura Lee Willis Wylie. He was a member of the Roanoke First United Methodist Church and was self-employed in the land and timber business. Mr. Wylie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leonette Cook Wylie; his son, Samuel Mark Wylie III; one sister, Jean Lowry; and one brother, Ben Wylie. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Roanoke First United Methodist Church or New Hope Christian Church.
