Mary Alice Willis Davis
The Lord welcomed one of his most faithful servants to Heaven when Mary Alice Willis Davis of Roanoke, Alabama departed this life on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the age of 84 after a brief illness. Services will be Saturday, May 1st, at 10 am at Quattlebaum Funeral Home in Roanoke, Alabama with Rev. Gerald Romine officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 30th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Quattlebaum. Pallbearers will be Johnny Wallace, Brad Davis, Josh Davis, Jimmy McKinney, Jim Peek, and Eric Bennett. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens in Roanoke.
A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Davis was recently preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, William Frazier (Bill) Davis. She is survived by two sons, William Michael Davis of Nashville, Tennessee and Alton Bruce Davis of Roanoke; daughter-in-law Sharon Johnson Davis of Roanoke; three grandsons, Brad and Josh Davis of Roanoke and Reid Davis of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and a great-grandson, Brayln Davis of Woodland.
Mrs. Davis was born April 20, 1926 in Ashville, Alabama to Sanford Alton and Nell Jones Willis. After moving to Oxford, Alabama, she was employed in Anniston, Alabama by the Alabama State Employment Office and later by the Calhoun County School System. In 1973, she and Bill and family moved from Oxford, Alabama to Roanoke, Alabama. She worked for many years for the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service in Wedowee.
A lifelong Baptist, Mrs. Davis loved the Lord and worked tirelessly for Him with the youth groups at First Baptist Church of Roanoke and Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Oxford.
After retiring, she and Bill began their true work traveling around the country in their RV on over 60 mission trips, building churches as part of the Southern Baptist Convention program, Campers on a Mission. They traveled to all 50 states in their service and lived a full life.
Mary was loved by all who knew her and will be missed but celebrated as she and Bill are reunited in eternity.
