Obituary of Nellie Jack Smith

OBITUARY Funeral services for Mrs. Nell J. Smith, of Roanoke, age 81, will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at 2:00 pm, from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Whitson and Rev. Michael Overton officiating. Mrs. Smith will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 18, 2010. Mrs. Smith died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at her home. Survivors include one daughter, Janice McDonald of Roanoke; two sons, Jimmy Smith of Eatonton, GA, Mike Smith of Roanoke; four sisters, Mary Jane Conyers of Roanoke, Helen Nami of San Antonio, TX, Sue Denny of Milltown, Johanna Bennett of Roanoke; two brothers, Sam P. Stewart of Virginia, Robert L. Stewart of Roanoke; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Craig Calhoun, Donald Whitehead, Clark Brown and Herbert Clark. Mrs. Smith was born October 5, 1928, the daughter of Whit L. and Vera Nunn Stewart. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and had been a homemaker. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis J. Smith; her parents; one sister, LaRue S. Dunaway. Flowers will be accepted or donations to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
