Obituary of Penny Lynn Pool

Funeral services for Penny Lynn Pool, age 68, of Roanoke will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Roanoke with Rev. Scott Hannah officiating.  Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.  Ms. Pool will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Thursday.

Penny went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

Survivors include: two sisters, Jon Ellen Nix of Thorsby, AL, and Ginger Dennis (Danny) of Opelika, AL; three brothers, Randy Pool of Roanoke, Tommy Pool of LaGrange, GA, and Billy Pool (Betty) of Fayetteville, GA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Roanoke native, Penny was born on March 1, 1951, the daughter of John William and Martha Lee Pool.  She was a graduate of Handley High School, Southern Union State Community College, and Auburn University.  Penny was a journalist and wrote for different newspapers throughout the state of Alabama and won many writing awards throughout her career.  She was last employed at The Randolph Leader in Roanoke and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roanoke.  Penny was a huge Auburn University Tigers fan, and she loved flowers and working in her yard.  Penny was an animal lover and was a dedicated supporter of the Randolph County Animal Shelter.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lonnie Frances Vaughn and Jean Hall; nephew, Keith Pool; and two beloved dogs, Yoyo and Sam.

Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the Randolph County Animal Shelter at 104 Animal Shelter Road, Wedowee, AL 36278.
