Obituary of John William Dudley Smith

Funeral services for John William Dudley Smith, age 85, of Roanoke, will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Paul Sheppard, Bro. Jeremy Sheppard, and Bro. Danny Anglin officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 12, 2021.

Mr. Smith died February 10, 2021, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Vernette Fincher Smith of Roanoke; one daughter, Rhonda Smith Nunnally of Roanoke, AL; two sons, Johnny Dudley Smith (Ann) and Ronnie Smith (Sharon), both of Roanoke; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Syble Flake of Columbus, GA; three brothers, Paul Sheppard (Kathy) of West Point, GA, Charles Sheppard (LaVelle) of Roanoke, AL, and Nathan Sheppard of Roanoke, AL.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Nunnally, Michael Nunnally, Timothy Nunnally, Matthew Nunnally, Lee Cameron, and Jordan Cameron.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Smith was born November 19, 1935, the son of Bowden and Lula Mae Edmondson Smith.  He was a supervisor loom fixer for Amoco Mills.  He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchild, Tennille Smith; sister, Jo Ann Cantrell; and brothers, Larry Sheppard and Michael Sheppard.
